About Peter Cuthbertson

I am running for election because Darlington needs a champion in Parliament
I am local. I was born here in Darlington. I went to school at Abbey School, Hummersknott Academy and Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College.

I grew up on Caedmon Crescent, just off Hummersknott Avenue, and my family now live in Mowden. My Dad works at the B&Q in Morton Park and my Mum teaches at local schools.

I know we have a great town - but we are being let down by Ed Miliband’s Labour Party
I am running to be the Conservative MP for Darlington because we need change. I want to push the true interests of our town – and our country.

How Ed Miliband’s Labour Party has let us down
  • Our Labour Council has scrapped weekly rubbish collection, priced many businesses and motorists out of the town and neglected large parts of Darlington in its spending priorities
  • The last Labour government led the country into a major economic downtown (Under the current government, unemployment in Darlington is falling fast, dropping below 5% in August)
  • Darlington’s council tax is now an average of £1,490 - £124 a month – and we are seeing terrible value for money
  • The last Labour government’s ‘open door’ immigration policy saw immigration to Britain of more than 3 million
  • Labour MPs voted against limiting the amount of taxpayers’ money any single household can claim in benefits to a £500 maximum
The voice I can be for Darlington:
The Northern Echo recently described me as “an avid supporter of
the NHS”
In 2013, Peter addressed a cross-party group of MPs
on the need for fairer funding for brain tumour research

In my day job, I work with patient charities and medical device manufacturers
on healthcare issues, which are a passion for me. I am determined that the best treatments are available to NHS patients. I will always support our local hospitals.

I am for zero tolerance policing and much tougher sentences
In my own time, I am also an anti-crime campaigner at the Centre for Crime
Prevention. I have exposed in the national media countless failures to give dangerous criminals proper sentences that protect the public. I back zero tolerance policing and much tougher prison sentences for serious criminals, who commit so many crimes when they aren’t behind bars. Tough sentencing works – and we need a lot more of it.

I have no interest in being just another politician
I am running for Parliament for just one reason - to put into practice my very strong beliefs about how our town and our country can be better. I will never blindly follow the party line, and I will always back:
  • much lower immigration
  • our local hospitals
  • a thriving town centre in Darlington
  • keeping good local schools open
  • a lower cost of living
  • zero tolerance policing and tougher prison sentences
  • leaving the EU if we can’t get a fair deal from Brussels
  • making sure work pays better than being on benefits
I want everyone to remember this is what I stand for – and I ask you to vote me out if I fail to live up to these promises.

Darlington has a great opportunity in 2015
After the disastrous economic state Labour left the country in under Gordon Brown, we are seeing our economy recover fast. Britain is the world’s fastest growing major advanced economy and unemployment is again below 5% in Darlington.

With elections next year, we can reject a Labour Party that is failing our town. We can vote for local Conservatives who will always fight for Darlington's interests and champion our town in Parliament.
